The Alte Pinakothek, Munich, 2001, 128 p., 204 ill. coul. -

Munich's Alte Pinakothek houses a rich collection of paintings from the fourteenth to the eighteenth century. Founded by Duke Wilhem IV of Bavaria in the sixteenth century, the collection is now housed in a neo-classical building built under the auspices of King Ludwig I. Works from all schools are represented in this book, by thematic sections prefaced by an introductory historical text. Highlights include Dürer's The Four Apostles and the Paumgäetner Altar, and the largest Rubens collection in the world. Detailed captions accompany each painting.
