Uchi Maius. Tardo antica e islamica - Miscellanea di studi 1997/2002, 2003, 156 p., ill. n.b. -
The Roman city of Uchi Maius is located in the hills of the Medjerda valley (northern Tunisia), about one hundred kilometres south-west of Tunis and just a short distance from the more famous centre of Thugga, capital, in the pre-Roman period, of the Realm of the Numidi Massyli: this is one of the most fertile areas of Tunisia and, in the pre-Roman period, one of the richest city areas of Proconsular Africa. Following an agreement signed in 1994 between the “Institut National du Patrimoine de Tunisine” and the University of Sassari, with the collaboration of the Universities of Pisa, Venice, Genoa and Cassino, from 1995-2002 eight archaeological digs and studies have been carried out on the epigraphic materials found at Uchi Maius, which have been shown to be of great interest. There have been many publications on these missions to date, but are far-spread and not easy to find, and concern a wide range of subjects (institutional history, epigraphy, numismatics, stratigraphic excavations, ceramic findings, ethno-archaeology). Following the introductory essay the mix of subjects contributed to by many of the researchers working on the project is linked together to provide a particularly rich and useful panorama not only for archaeology students.
