An exhibition held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and then in Los Angeles in 2002-3 brought together more than 200 objects from collections in Europe, the United States and Asia, belonging to the Mongol dynasty of the 13th and 14th centuries. Under the leadership of the infamous Genghis Khan, the Mongols crossed Asia leaving behind a vibrant and eclectic Islamic culture including exquisite art objects, textiles, literary works, buildings and so forth. Eight essays, plus two technical studies precede the catalogue of objects, maps and genealogical charts.
