The re-unification of Berlin enabled all the painting collections of the Prussian state - which date back to the period of Frederick the Great- to be brought together and displayed in the Gemäldegalerie, the exciting new picture gallery in Berlin's Kulturforum complex. The collection is full of masterpieces, including great works by Botticelli, Dürer, Cranach, Breughel, Raphael, El Greco, Caravaggio and Gainsborough, and representative collections of german, Dutch, Italian, Flemish and Spanish painting.
