The Knights Hospitaller, 2001, 192 p., 12 ill. coul., 11 ill. n.b. -
This study of the history of the Order of St John of Jerusalem, Rhodes and Malta begins with a consideration of the origins of the Order as a hospice for pilgrims in Jerusalem in the 11th century. It traces the Order's development into a military order during the first part of the 12th century, and its military activities. It also considers the Order's activities away from the frontiers of Christendom (economic activities, relations with patrons and rulers throughout Europe, hospitaller work...). The last chapters consider the Order's history up to now.
